This laptop has a clean design with its brushed aluminum. The underside is made of plastic. ASUS should have wrapped the entire laptop in aluminum. The screen is of decent quality and will do for the majority of users. This laptop is fairly thin and still has a DVD drive, which comes in handy. The DVD drive design isn’t great and is a bit of a pain to open when pushing the eject button. Takes a few pushes for the DVD tray to eject.
The battery is small. It could have been bigger for when there is no socket around. I mostly run on AC power so its not as big of a nuisances. I bought this laptop with the ten key in mind, but it hasn’t gotten much use. Realistically, I don’t think anyone needs a 10-key. The main hard drive is not SSD, so don’t get too excited. The SSD is only 24GBs and used to help boot the laptop quicker. The 6GBs of RAM is adequate but should really be at least 8GBs. I hate all trackpads on laptops. They are too sensitive and slow to use. I use a wireless mouse.

A decent home computer.
I honestly don’t use it a ton, other than email, photos/music storage, and internet.I forget I have the touchscreen, and since the Windows format has changed, it’s definitely not a necessity.
Considering I never use it for videos, the screen size is a bit unnecessary, and therefore the computer can be a bit heavy.
I did have to ask for a replacement from Amazon, as the first one I was sent had an askew CD drive.It was promptly replaced, and I haven’t had any issues since (*knocks on wood*).Three years later, and it’s still going strong…

OK – I decided to buy this computer with Windows 8 even though my boyfriend works in IT and I know that it’s really annoying not having a start button.However, I was able to figure out (all on my own) how to get to the area where you can restart your computer (admittedly it took me 1/2 hour) but I’m not reviewing Windows 8.

This computer is excellent.It’s lightweight (for it’s size) and the lightest computer I have ever owned.I absolutely love having a touch screen which I use for the mouse but not for typing.The keyboard has a nice feedback although I will say it took me a little bit to get used to the keys and what pressure was needed. It has a full keypad along with number pad and separate arrows.It did take a while to get used to where the arrows are and where they put the home, page up, page down, end keys.It doesn’t have a separate insert key so that can be a bit annoying.

I use it for work every day and don’t use it for watching videos or gaming but I think it has an excellent display (which I clean regularly to remove fingerprints).

It feels like a solid computer.It’s fast and turns on quickly.

My Final DELL Computer just went out on me and I have to have a laptop. I have sworn off purchasing another system from dell so I went to Amazon for Reviews.

This machine ROCKS! It’sput together so well that I dropped it from a Counter Height island after 1 week and it’s working brand new!
I also love that this machine has a 1 year drop/spill warranty. This part is the best! This machine is built so well that it’s not needed.
I like the keyboard, it’s really easy to use. but i’m still getting use to the apps and navigating the touch screen. It’s something that I have to remind myself that it’s a feature as well. IT works great!

the speakers are decent. They aren’t Sony Boom Box Speakers but they carry a nice toon.
the speed is quite fast than my Dell computer..

there is also this Free Storage that comes with it.. it’s somewhat like the Mac CLOUD Feature? No need to purchase an external drive, you can store your files in the cloud for FREE with this system.

If I could go back and repurchase the 6 laptops that I’ve had over a decade, I would start here!

I was searching for a new laptop for a few weeks for school(home use too). I was a little weary of purchasing a computer online without actually seeing it in person yet, but after seeing the hardware(internal and external)I gave it a shot, could have returned it if something was wrong. Folks, I gotta tell ya, for the price of only $625ish this machine has no equal. Asus already has a reputation for being a solid laptop…great storage space, hardware, processor, it runs very smooth. They advertise a 2 sec. boot-up when you turn it on, in reality it’s actually like 20-30 sec. but i’m not going to argue. The laptop itself is made out of brushed aluminum, looks and feels great. You defiantly feel the sturdiness of the casing, not made of cheap crap, it’s built to last. Some people complain its a little too heavy to be in the ultra-book category, the little bit of extra weight gives you the reassurance that this computer is made with durability. Keyboard it very responsive and keys are easy to the touch. LED screen is sharp and the touchscreen component is very responsive as well. The only thing that’s going to take some getting use to for some of you is Windows 8. This operating system was made to be in a ultra-book, touchscreen laptop, tablet, ect., so don’t feel intimidated by it when you first boot up the computer cause it can be overwhelming. Once you get use to it and learn how to navigate the home screen it’s really user friendly. I connects fast and easy to wifi, downloads and runs programs very quick, and works just a great as a $1,200 laptop. What I really love about this computer that even though it has the specifications of the ultra-books, it comes with a DVD/CD-ROM, its a great added feature. If you’re looking for a simple touchscreen laptop/ultra-book to upgrade to, this one is honestly by far the best one I’ve seen in the lower price range. Remember you’re not sacrificing features for price, this laptop’s got it all for your basic home/school/work computer needs.

Great laptop for the price, love the touch screen, super fast startup and all in all a fast computer. It took me a couple of days to get use to windows 8 but i gotta say i love it.
The bad part of this laptop is that some of the buttons on the keyboard arent setup correctly, to explain, I mean for example the volume up button make the laptop go on full screen. But other than that, it’s awesome.

Ok I bought this laptop in august 2013 and now its august 2015 and all I can say is that this laptop is an excellent laptop. It has survived through many falls and bumps and even some viruses. It is sturdy and the battery life is pretty good, can last you 1h30. The touchscreen is still solid, and the new windows is pretty good. All in all, if you want a laptop that can last you for your university years or for work or play then this is a great laptop for that. Only problem is the charger, I had to get it replaced but Asus paid for it since it was part of the warranty.
